- If you had grub damage in the lawn last year it is time to apply a soil insecticide to control this year’s grubs before they grow too large to control. The same soil insecticide will control chinch bugs.
- Some plantings of New Gold Lantana are attacked by lace bugs each year with the result that they quit blooming and the leaves turn a dusty color. If you have such a bed, apply Spinosad or another insecticide to kill the insects before they begin sucking the juices from the leaves.
- Tolerate honey bees at your hummingbird feeder. The bees are needed for pollination of food and ornamental plants. Combat fire ant feeding by moving the feeder different sites. Apply an insecticide spray labeled for fire ants to their trail to the feeder area. Be careful not to get the spray near the feeder.
- If you have a few sand burs in the lawn or garden pop the whole plant out of the ground with the shovel point. Place the plants and burs in a garbage sack and discard them. If you can identify sand bur plants before they form burs, spot spray the plants with a version of Image labeled for sand burs.
